Adams was one of the first of
Ohio's 88 counties to be formed. It derives its name from John
Adams, our second president. The county seat is situated on the
Ohio River 100 miles south of Columbus and 50 miles from Cincinnati.
West Union is the county seat. The most significant feature of
the county is the giant earth mound in the form of a serpent located
in the Serpent Mound State Memorial claimed as the largest effigy
mound in the world, the 1,254 foot structure was constructed by
the Hopewell Indians. Tobacco is the main agricultural product
in Adams County. Principle industry includes; apparel, electrical
machinery, fabricated metals, food, lumber, bakery items, refrigerator
condensers and welded wire products.
