ADAMS COUNTY

Adams County was one of the first of Ohio's 88 counties to be formed.  It derives its name from John Adams, our second President.  The County Seat, which is West Union, is situated on the Ohio River 100 miles south of Columbus and 50 miles from Cincinnati.    The most significant feature of the county is the giant earth mound in the form of a serpent located in the Serpent Mound State Memorial.  It is claimed as the largest effigy mound in the world, the 1,254 foot structure was constructed by the Hopewell indians.  For more information on Adams County go to www.adamscountytravel.org
